Jalapeño comes from the name Jalapa which is the capital of the state of Veracruz in Mexico, the pepper was ( I believe ) from there originally therefore we named it Jalapeño which in Spanish means "from Jalapa".

It is a hot green pepper, you can find in the produce section, at your local market.. Just ask the produce workers, to help you to find one, so you can see what they look like.. they are so YUMMO, if made with cheese inside.. You can burn them on a burner, until there, completely BLACK, then you take all the insides out of them, and add some mozerella cheese, inside of them, and bake them for about, 5-10 minutes, on about 275, oven.. Oh, first you take off all the black outside, skin it completely, on the outside, just enough to get the green look back.. Then just pop those "Puppies" in the oven and vwalaa!!! YUMMO!!! Their great for a side dish with chicken enchilada's or, fried burritos, or, just as a snack ,with a bean & cheese burrito, on the side.... There you have it !!! Yummy!! Smile!

There are hot and sweet varieties....the hot is used in chilli, hot wings, mexican food, when you want it hot...but the sweet called Topeno can be used in the following ways....:
. Shrimp & Chicken Nuggets Dipping sauce
. Grilled Chicken Breast & pork chops
. Refrigerate and Topeno thickens to use on Cream
Cheese and crackers
. Ice cream Topping (vanilla especially)
. Waffles
. Cheese cake
Try them both. You will love them....a dash of the hot in brownies is really good..it doesn't taste hot, just great...
