Ignore the doom and gloom merchants they wouldn`t know a TV if they fell over it . IT is very unlikely to be the tube !!! My best guess ( I have been in TV repair for 45 years in 3 country's !! ) is that the eht transformer has arced hence the hissing noise !! Like I said its a guess but get a TV tech in to take look and maybe give you an idea of the repair cost. Cheers Pete

You HAD a working a Sony kd28dx4ou TV. Go buy a new, it is cheaper to replace a TV rather then trying a get the old one fixed. I know this sounds harsh but it is the truth.. Good Luck
I recommend the Sony XBR series, good TVs

The tube's blown! I've no idea if your tv is old or new, but if it's new, check the warranty - sony'll get it replaced. If it's old, chuck it out. When the tube goes once, it has a tendency to go again in the future. Get a Toshiba instead, they're better! :)
