I never heard that.
To gain 1 lb a week you must eat 500 more calories than you burn in a day for everyday. And a banana has 103 calories. So you will need to eat your normal food and 5 bananas.

banana's can slow down your motabolism by a bit so yeah they can help. You would need to eat about 4 a day. but basically to gain weight you need to increase your caloric intake. in order to gain one pound a week you would need to eat 3500 cals extra a week!
