Have been trying to expand my cooking horizons. Needed capers...used a few...what do I do with the rest of the jar? Do they need refrigeration? Is there a shelf life?

I LOVE CAPERS! After opening, I put the jar in the refrigerator. They can stay there for a couple of months, as has been my experience. They're great in salads.

Most products have a date on the package for an expiration date. I think they can stay unopened for a very long time. Any time a can or jar top "bubbles" throw it away. That means that the insides have gone bad. I repeat, throw it away without opening it. It could explode if you do.

Capers are fantastic on bagels with cream cheese.

Yes - you can put them in a different container. Glass or plastic, doesn't matter, as long as it has a lid. Leave enough liquid to cover the pickles and that will keep them fresher and tastier.

Plastic is fine and you only need enough liquid to cover the pickles. And they do not have to be kept in the fridge. It's the brine that preserves them, not the cold.

Refrigerate after opening. Since they are in brine they will keep for quite awhile.

Yep, refrigerate them. They'll still be good for quite a while. They're brined after all.

Refrigerate. They should last for a VERY long time, like pickles.
