I am an atheist, and have dedicated a great deal of time to studying the Bible. It seems to me that the majority of the Christians around here have more or less missed the point. Tell me, what did you learn from the Gospels?

What didn't I learn? I learned how to live my life in the best way possible. Sure I like many others have strayed but I repented of my sins and have moved on in my relationship with God. That is what the Bible is for. It is a Tool in which Christians can use to understand what is expected in their lives.

I was born in to a catholic family but no longer have a need for organized religions. I found it to be a good place to start on my spiritual journey. The most insightful words of Jesus that I found came from the gospel of thomas (which I believe the church reguards as heresy).

I learned alot such as......

Luke 17:1 (Whole Chapter)
[ Teachings about Forgiveness and Faith ] One day Jesus said to his disciples, “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting!

John 8:31 (Whole Chapter)
[ Jesus and Abraham ] Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.

1 Timothy 6:3 (Whole Chapter)
Some people may contradict our teaching, but these are the wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These teachings promote a godly life.

I have learn't about being humble, giving sinceringly, forgiving other, having Faith! and Sacrifing for God as JESUS DID SACRIFICE FOR US! Christians have not missed the point...maybe some false ones have, but the true ones are on that point in believing, Jesus words are what i walk by, and its basically my whole life.

Yes I have learned a lot. Jesus Christ was our sacrifice for our sins. We could not be reconciled back to the Father because of our sin and God made a way - Jesus - so that He would be a perfect sacrifice. "God made Him (Jesus) to be sin, who knew no sin." It was the only way to save us. Jesus Christ died, was buried, rose again on the third day (resurrected) according to the Holy Scriptures. We also will have a resurrected body one day just like Jesus and Heaven/Eternal Life as our home. Blessings to you and may you find Jesus - He is the Way, the Truth and the Life - no one comes to the Father except through the Son.

What Jesus taught has taught me a lot, but through most of it I've found that one main theme seems to be :

Love God and love people.

I've learned other things, too, and am learning new things everyday, but that is what sticks out at me in a very very very simple form.

Nothing whatsoever. There may be one or two good things in the Bible, but if you have to swallow all of the rest, and submit yourself to religious brainwashing, then I pass. You can learn the same kind of good stuff -without the bad parts- somewhere else.
