Are there any countries where existing governments imprison or kill people solely because of their religious beliefs? I will define religion as one of the mainstream ones that believe in a diety or dieties, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Taoism, Judaism.

Baha'is are persecuted in Iran - including arbitrary imprisonment and execution. Since the Islamic Revolution over 200 Baha'is have been killed by the government of Iran. One was a 16 year old girl, who was hung for teaching children's classes.
Iran also attacks evangelical Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, and even Sunni Muslims. See the last reference below.

I think hard-core Christians would say Muslim-majority countries have the highest incidence of religious persecution because they, or representatives of their religion, have had a hard time attempting to spread their religion in these countries...
...and for good reason; I think Islam is a much more superior religion, so why would Muslims want to convert to Christianity?
Just my opinion...

Yes China is the biggest one that comes to mind. It is a crime to own a bible in China and the only "Christianity" allowed is state run.
Yet we buy millions of dollars worth of products from state run companies in China and I don't know of many US companies that don't have some sort of operation in China. I feel that we need to be praying for the people of China and for missionaries to spread the Good News of Christ to the Chinese.
