tell your mom that an outdoor cat is prone to being hit by a car, poisoned by a human or left out poisons for rats, gophers, snails, antifreeze, etc., can be killed or eaten by a dog, or wild predator, can get in cat fights resulting in diseases (hope your kitten has been vaccinated) like feline leukemia, FIP, distemper, and rabies, and can end up with an abscess and infection costing your mom loads of money to fix at the vet and can pick up fleas, ticks, worms, etc., Good enough reason to keep him INDOORS.

I had to convince my husband, so I have a little experience in this area.
I told him that if she gets hit by a car, it could be very expensive to take her to the vet. I also told him that other cats & animals might try to fight with her & injure her! It's a fact that inside cats live longer & healthier lives. If it's inside all the time & if you put Revolution on it, it won't bring fleas in & out of the house. Tell her that you will take full responsibility of feeding & watering, cleaning the litter box, and anything else. Tell her that if you don't, you will accept the consequences of putting the kitten back outside. Also, tell her that you love your kitten. ;-)
Good luck!

Explain to your mom all the plus sides to an indoor cat. Money is usually a clincher. It is much less expensive to own an indoor only cat since there are less chances of coming in contact with diseases or get into a fight or injured. Also a indoor cat only can lead a very full life and will be a more sociable cat. I take it your mom is not the cat lover you are? I've been there ask her to give it a try. My mother eventually got use to it and then became an avid cat lover (but she still denies that one! :)

Why is a KITTEN outside. When its a kitten it should stay inside. When its a year old keep em inside. Tell her its not good to keep her outside as a kitten.She/He is a kitten...kittens are young with no common sense, they can walk in the road and think its ok!

Try telling her about the dangers for your kitten, including diseases from other animals, he/she could get run over by a car, or some other person could decide to take the kitten

First of all, what problem does your mom have with the cat? If it's clawing furniture, or going to the bathroom everywhere, then try convincing her that you can train the cat. It's not hard to litter train a cat, and clawing can be taken care of by giving the cat lots of other things to scratch. If it's some other problem, try working them out and offering solutions to each one that comes up. Don't be rash and promise things you won't do, however.
