lol, you people are idiots, mexico, canada, venuzela would cut off oil exports to the USA, this country would come to a standstill in days.

I don't belive it would happen, from what I understand America has enough oil in storage to keep this country going for decades.

As of Sept 29, 2006, the US has an Oil Reserve of 687.7 million barrels of oil (link below). We currently consume about 9,125,000 barrels a day (link below). Soooo, about 75 day’s worth of oil just on the reserves, if we were completely cut off. We do also produce a percentage of our own oil - but that would only get us to about 100 days. But during that time, prices would skyrocket and demand would outweigh supply so much that most individuals would not be able to afford to fill up their cars.

We are a country addicted to oil, sold to us by our enemies, and encouraged by our government. We have become too dependant, too quickly, without a decent backup plan.

I don't think that the people who hate us would ever cut us off. No dealer ever cuts off their addicts because they know that they are their best customers. But what they can do is slowly drive the price up by reducing how much they produce (which OPEC did this morning, link below) and sending some of that cash that they made for us to people who want to do us harm or to prop up governments who really, really dislike us. Luckily enough for us, our largest importer of oil is Canada - who are wonderful, nice, friendly, sexy, well-hung people who would never raise their prices because they are too good looking and beautiful to do so (I hope that was enough).

You know, you are not making it obvious which side you want your answer on "do you agree?" The link went to another open question, so it sounds more like this question is a continuation of your answer to him.

Anyway, all speculation about doing extreme things about the immigration issues are just counter-productive. They do not solve a darn thing because you know we will not do it that way. I personally consider the whole "build a wall" mentality crazy enough, and some people seem to be taking that seriously. It is just not the American way.

Look at my avatar. It is a rather famous statue of the Goddess of Liberty. Oh, yes, she is a Goddess, my friends; and she used to be on virtually every coin in an American's pocket. About the time I was born, as a matter of fact, but for many years before that as well. Coin collectors can tell you all about it, and show you some beautiful portraits of the Goddess of Liberty.

And on the plinth of that statue that stands in New York harbor, symbol of America to a whole lot of people, it says, "Give me your tired, poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Remember?

Oil. the text should be "...streets paved with oil." Oil is money, so, merchants want to sell. Raising prices and giving threats will cause customers to look elsewhere. Oil...we have some. But, there are some good energy alternatives that could be made affordable, if it weren't for the merchants lobbying and giving us a sleight of hand show. We should all be driving hybrids and ethanol cars. They are affordable to make....

America has enough oil on hand for about 57 days. Our reserves cannot be tapped quickly enough to make up for a sudden cut in supply. However, if only some countries cut supply to the US, then we can still buy what we need on the open market from other countries. Oil is fungible.

We get most of our oil from Canada and we have many untapped oil resources of our own.

We are currently in control of Iraq's oil fields. We as a superpower would also develop alternative resources.

Mexico is the 4th richest oil nation in the world and they are so stupid they starve their own people.

Sorry we do not have enough oil storage for decades. It the world decided to stop shipping oil here the US would slowly grind to a halt. You would see rationing worse than the ones we had during WW2.

We do have lots of oil offshore but the enviromentalist would go nuts of course.

It does and then we would start drilling in our own oil fields. We need to convert solar power and make our need for oil history.
