Christians used to follow the example of the good samaritan--they used to HELP people, and they didn't preach and lecture all the time. Twenty years ago the slogan was "they will know we are christians by our love" and they held themselves to the verse "whatsoever you have done to these the least of my brethren, that ye have done unto me." Those are Christs words and his followers believed that their actions speak louder than words
Nowadays churches have closed the doors on their homeless shelters and soup kitchens in most areas and gotten rid of the vouchers they used to use to help people in times of desperate need. Showing up to church in your best clothes is no longer good enough when your best clothes are jeans and a work shirt--and heaven help the homeless person who tries to walk through that door on sunday. When did Christ tell these people that it was more important to nag the people who don't want or need their help than to help the people who need Him? out of characters.

alot of the churches are underfunded to be able to do the outreach work they once did. as far as the fashion show, i'm not sure when they made it very uncomfortable for one to come as they are. its not right at all, i agree with you there. i think alot of people have fallen victim to commercial religion and lost or compromised their personal relationship with Jesus in the process.
christianity is was and always will be a good thing, it's people that make it ugly, hard to understand and accept. sometimes well meaning people that are misguided.

Hum mm from the moment of Christs death the disciples started to argue! I think Christianity is still a good thing but it has never ever been easy!

We are human and we make big mistakes .I do anyway!

The crusades? The Spanish Inquisition? the burning and drowning of witches, The spread of the end time prophecies to Africa causing great suffering and leaving desperate people with no hope! Wars, terrorism. Christ is great but we fail him over and over again!

Churches still do wonderful work. Samaritans purse, harvest festival boxes for the old and sick, world vision, the salvation army etc.

Christ died for us because we are vein, conceited, rude, blasphemous, selfish etc. Not because we are perfect! If we were perfect he would not have needed to save us from ourselves!

I don't know what churches you have gone to but my church is not like that. We help people all the time and I know that if I ever need anything that I can turn to my church for help. When the gas prices were so high this summer my church was paying for gas for some people so they could get to work. And it doesn't matter what you look like at my church either my husband has piercings and tatoos and he teaches the junior high boys class. I am sorry that you have not recieved the love that you should have and I will pray for you.

That is really sad. What you are describing are not the actions of Christians..
Being a Christian does not mean how many times a week you go to Church. You can read the Bible, worship, help others, etc. from your own home or anywhere else.

There are still some of us left.. Many in fact..So, I'm sorry for what you've seen.

Don't knock wiccan teen. She obviously is young and hasn't been initiated to the highter levels of wicca yet, otherwise she'd have learned to tell the difference between Wicca and Wicca - Buffy style.

However, it seems that xtianity, along with several other religions, has become ever more right-wing over the last 50 years or so. Fundamentalism and evangelism have taken over and now , they're just concerned with duping people into believing a corrupted, distorted and ruined faith.

All of what you have said is very true. People are more concerned with what they wear to church, will they find a date (this does include the clergy---no one is off limits), and who will put the most amount of money in the collection plate. Basically, they are just being hypocrites. No one cares about the homeless or the needy. Why? Because the preacher didn't tell them to.

Accepting Jesus Christ and following His teachings in the spirit they were taught is wonderful and fills people with the need to help others. When true Christians let Jesus in their hearts- they are compelled to serve their fellow man.

Those who use his words to hate and condemn are the false prophets He spoke of. Unfortunately, there are more people using the word of Christ to prove they are right or better than to love their fellow human beings- regardless of their religions or beliefs. Throughout history, religion has been used for power, control and wealth instead of the messages it truly delivers.

I don't remember anywhere in the Bible where Jesus called for the Inquisition, condemnation of the sick or belittling of the poor- but that's what it used for by people. People are the problem, not the messages or Christ. I also don't remember anywhere in the Bible where Jesus sat in a large gold painted chair with big hair and canned music and begged for money from those who needed his help the most.

Shame on all those who convolute Christianity for their own agendas- the far "Christian Right" included.

You are absolutely right, they should know we are Christians by our love-- not because we tell them we are better than them.

At my church we go downtown and seek the homeless and bring them a sack dinner. We also bring clothes, bibles, etc. We also invite the homeless into our church and fix them dinners. At my church some people dress up and some people wear jean shorts. I think it's up to the person and what they feel comfy in. I really feel bad for you that the Christians you have witnessed have given us a bad name. But you know Christians are not sinless, just forgiven. You are judging Christians just because you have been around a few bad ones. My friend if you ever want to seek Him and His love just email me at donaldsona@sbcglobal.net. God Bless!

It is still "a good thing." You are being deceived by Christians who are not real Christians. But Christians are not perfect and people tend to think of them as such. We are forgiven by the Lord Jesus Christ. A world without Christians would be a sad world indeed - Christians do make a difference.
