I've had sciatic pain in my left leg and hind quarters, as you put it, for about 8 months now. The pain is worst when I lie flat on my back. I've been told that nerves heal very slowly - about half an inch a month. At that rate, it's going to take a long time to heal. I have tried everything to relieve the pain - and nothing works. Slowly it will just get better. If sitting on a pillow makes you feel better, then sit on a pillow as much as you can. Do what ever makes you feel better until the nerve heals. Nerve pain is definitly up there with the worst. Good luck.

i have had that problem ever since i was pregnant with my son 4 yrs ago. when i was just pregnant with my daughter the obgyn said there is nothing you can do about the pain (just know i switch obgyn's in my 7th month...). what i reccomend is which ever side is giving you pain- stay off it. walk carefully (i almost fell to the floor several times pregnant or not). when u walk, expect it to just start hurting out of nowhere. sit with a pillow behind your lower back. that's all i can think of that might help. when you sleep lay on your left side and put a pillow between your legs so your hips aren't crooked from your leg hangning down. it should help a little...might not solve the probelm. hang in there you're almost done! the pain may not go away completely but after the baby is born it should be reduced a lot.

So..
Sciatica is a pain that results from irritation of one of sciatic nerves. This is a lower back pain that goes down to hip and then to both legs extending to feet and toes in some cases. Sciatica nerve is the largest nerve in our body. Running down the spine through the hip, sciatic nerve goes down to knee and ankle. Any damage or pressure on this nerve results in debilitating sciatica pain that needs thorough investigation of probable causes on the basis of symptoms to provide relief to the patient on a permanent basis.

My husband had deteriorated disc and had the sciatic pain,
said it helped if I sat on his lap. It varies by the location of
the compression.
