I think the first thing you would need to learn is how to make rice. It's super simple once you get the hang of it. Then, when you have your cooked rice, you can do some of the ideas suggested above or anything else you think of.

To make rice, you need a saucepan that is fairly heavy with a lid that fits well ("tightly"). You need one part rice for two parts liquid. For example, start with 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of liquid. Use water for your liquid to start, but you can use chicken broth or pretty much any liquid that sounds right once you master the technique. You may also want to fry the rice a bit in some oil, butter, or lard before you add the water, but it isn't necessary. Bring your rice and water to a boil, then stir it well and put the cover on the pan and turn the heat down to very low. Let it cook and don't lift the lid for about 20 minutes. Lift the lid and see if it's "done". You should see little holes in the rice, and it should be fluffy when you move a fork through it. If it's too wet, let it cook a while longer.

Keep trying until you get it right! You will find that rice is very versatile.

There are thousands of rice recipes. You could start off with making a sort of Spanish rice type of dish. Saute one small chopped onion in about two Tbl spoons of Olive oil and butter until translucent. Then add about a cup of rice per person saute until sort of white and or brown looking. Add about 2 TSP of tomato paste and saute with the rice and onions. the add about 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, cover tightly, when all the liquid has evaporated, test if the rice is tender, if not add a little more water, and cook until tender. Try this it should turn out well. Oh and don't use instant rice. Use Uncle Bens, or another Long grain rice. I hope you like it.

Cook Mexican rice and then top with ground beef, cheese, sour cream, and taco sauce. You can even roll it all up in a flour tortilla. Tastes really great and only takes like 20-30 minutes.
