..one of my friends comes from the states and he tried to prove to me that the earth was supposed to be only a few thousand years old, dinosaur fossils meant nothing, so does carbon-14 dating.. i think thats so much BS, how can a country so technologically advanced be so fundamentally religious..

seriously if you believe in it then yup but i'd say your education has done well for you.. not!!

I completely agree with you. Not being American I had really not come across such phenomenal levels of ignorance and stupidity until I started using Yahoo Answers and visiting the Religion and Spirituality and Biology sections.

It's absolutely amazing that the world's richest and most technologically advanced nation is inhabited by huge numbers of people whose brains are still stuck in the 18th century (and a lot of these creationists also don't believe in the Big Bang, or that the earth rotates around the sun!).

And of course the whole nation's policy is determined by one of these numbskulls (Bush is, rather unsurprisingly, a creationist).

Terrifying.

I am still not sure, There are many good points to evolution, I believe selective breeding makes a whole new line of the same species my best example of this is all dogs have a common ancestor. So all people could possibly have a common ancestor.
That Earth was once a water covered planet a primordial soup that all organisms came from is hard to grasp. saying ,plants, fish,reptiles and mammals all derived from the same organism is just as hard to believe as the creation theory by a supreme being. So I try not to criticize any ones beliefs.

You're statements are bold when they're is so much wrong with Darwinism.

In my biology class we learned first about mutations and then about evolution for obvious reasons.

My biology teacher, who believes evolution occurs said, while we were learning about what mutations are, that good mutations are rare.

Then we learned about evolution.

However, if good mutations are rare, then how is it that so many animals mutated in such a way that they are surviving.

Also, much of Darwin's theory was based off of natural selection, and survival of the fittest.

So if you have a animal with a certain trait because of gene A and that type of animal with gene B, and the trait that comes with gene A is stronger the trait that comes with gene B then the animal with gene A will survive and mate and therefore pass on gene A, while gene B will eventually cease to be or will be rare because none of those animals are surviving long enough to pass on gene B.

Now let's look at a bunch of genes this way and call them genes
A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y and Z.

Now say 13 of those genes are weak and either cease to exist or are rarely found.

You are left with having genes:
A C E G I K M O Q S U W and Y

Now if they're are less genes to work with, doesn't that mean they're would be LESS variety of animals rather then MORE.

Now you may be saying well, then were just a bunch of animals to work with in the beginning.

Where did those animals come from?

Obviously there are loops in Darwin's theory, so please before you go degrading people's education, look at your own, and try to be a little more open-minded next time.

It's really scary, and not just the whole Creationist thing. People who believe so strongly that abortion is murder that they shoot a few doctors as a protest. Dudes like John Ashcroft (a Pentacostal minister who believes in the Rapture) is senior positions in U.S. government who the influence and means to personally move the Middle East closer to Armageddon. And they completely believe it and refuse to have a reasonable conversation about it -- anything and everything which doesn't coincide with their belief is dismissed as 'junk science' or just dismissed. The mind absolutely boggles.

But perhaps the technology does contribute to it -- we all grow up breathing, eating, absorbing and otherwise ingesting lots of toxins that have been banned in Europe for safety reasons. But surely the government would protect us.

If only....

My education has done very well for me, thank you, and ya, I seriously believe in Creationism. Would you have figured evolution out all by yourself? Not. Darwinism has enough problems of its own. Read Behe's, Darwin's Black Box, or a quote from Darwin himself who expressed doubts over how the human eye could have ever come into being through natural selection.

Well I didn't, because of the lack of proof concerning the evolution THEORY. BUT, I've now changed my mind. I've decided to accept darwinism as stone cold fact. My reason? But of course, you must be the missing link! (ducks and covers from the thrown feces of monkeyman)

I entirely agree. I have been in communication with a number of people whom I have met through this forum, and the utter bull-s--ttedness of the arguments raised (mostly from Web sites -- surprise!) is absolutely amazing. You can PROVE that evolution is correct (as I have), and they STILL will not believe it.
