Okay, Okay -Come on I am not looking for smarty pants answers here!!

I am genuinely curious, having had 9 VW's since 1976. I am looking to buy another VW soon.

I saw one of the new VW Foxes recently and it is everything the Polo used to be so my question is, why would anyone choose a golf over a polo or vise versa? Is it an image thing?

i'e., POLO- young people, very old people.
GOLF- middle aged people, boring people.

I would be interested to hear everyone's opinion on this as I find the VW range confusing at present.

The Golf started out as the entry level car for VW, then Jetta, passat. Now the current Polo is bigger than a Mark 1 Golf, as the golf has grown in size over the years VW decided to market a smaller car, the polo and as that has grown they decided to offer a new model, the fox / lupo you mention.
The Golf usually have bigger engines than the Polo and are certainly heavier.
The youth thing I think is just down to insurance costs, most youths may aspire to a golf but don't want to waste their money on higher insurance premiums.
There is an active tuning / modifying scene around golfs, less so polos.

polo is an exceedingly good sort :D once you're searching on the 6n sort (earlier 2000) seems for rust and once you're searching on the 6n2 sort (2000-2002) the equipment container is the weak link... later fashions dont have many complications :) The polo receives extra perfect fule monetary equipment, then you quite have the polo GTI, a humorous litle automobile! The golfing is wider and longer than the polo, the a number of golfing's have a similar engine because the polo like a million.4 and a million.6L
