Homeland Security was created to keep the country safe,or to give one of bush's Friends or family a good job.Your choice! I don't see how illegal immigrants pose a threat to our security? The majority of them are uneducated and poor but are willing to work long hours in the fields, be ridiculed and treated like slaves in order to give their families a better chance in life. The only difference I see between them and "most" Americans,is they have the will power to keep going."Most" Americans start whining poor pittyful me and give up.From what I read on this site, the gov has been successful in dividing this country! Think about it. Why after all these decades they have done nothing to deter illegal immigrants. Then when bush's rating's were at an all time low and all eyes are on Iraq, the immigrants suddenly become a problem. They tried to divert our eyes from Iraq with the same sex marriage debate but failed. The abortion debate almost succeeded but soon was on the back burner. therefore the illegal immigrant became a problem. As far as breaking the laws go.... when you have a community where 80% of the population is for instance Spanish and 20 % is American, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that 80% of the crimes will be done by the larger percentage of the population.
Soccer Coach, I agree with you totally!
Nick_F I think you made the same mistake as many others. You didn't read what Soccer Coach actually said. He did not say you were an illegal immigrant. Every family that migrated to the US in the beginning were actually "illegal immigrants" because, They weren't invited to come to this country, The Indians had never seen a white man. But I would bet that many people from Mexico lived on this land long before a white man came ashore!

Well, I'm a real American but I will not answer yes to this question. I would say yes to it if it was worded differently. It is not the Homeland Security department that is at fault, but our government--federal, state, and local. This mass influx was happening long before the Department of Homeland security was created. This department is directed by the president. You have large cities that have a policy that allows illegal immigrants to go free. You have states that will not enforce the existing immigration laws. I'm afraid this problem extends to all of our government.

I don't like your tone and accusation of what you think a real American is. Homeland security has been trying to get congress off their asses for years to do something. Like last year when they voted for the fence but voted down the funding. We have had this problem for a lot longer than we have had the Dept of Homeland Security, so you need spread your blame a little further out.

Homeland Security has done little to protect the USA if Americans hadn't done mass complaining nothing would have been done to guard our southern boarder.
The government is trying to wipe out the middle-class and lower the standard of living for everyone. They want to ruin Americans and steal their land and Homeless Security is helping them!!!!!

Yes, the Bush Administration's Department of Homeland Security has failed at many of its duties. Write letters to your editor and tell them. The media needs your direction.

I wouldn't put all the blame on Homeland Security. They are just like a watchdog that is on a leash. Can't do anything until it's released.

Department of Homeland Security, good idea with mixed and ignorant direction.
We need to act on the current laws with respect to securing our borders.
DHS should enhance our current laws.

yes, put the military there, OR minefield, OR a complete double fence (not 700 miles, but the whole length), or put national guard artillery training sites there, so the border is an artillery impact range.
soccer- even native americans immigrated here at one time
