i'm going to live in new zealand (from the UK) for 5months and am unsure about the best way to have money over there. I have about £1000 i want to take with me, but i don;t want to be charged everytime i withdraw cash. Is there either a UK account which wot charge me in NZ, or a way to take the cash and open an account when i'm out there?

yes, to minimize transaction cost use traveler's checks or open an account with a local nz bank. See nz bank http://www.asb.co.nz/ if your bank in uk has a branch in nz, you might get "no charge" for a branch to branch money transfer. To learn more this page looks worth visiting:

can't you use a visa check card and have your money in your local bank at home when you with draw from ATM it will give local money at best exchange rate. i used mine all over central America and Mexico.
