to prove a crime we must fufill two things elements of the offense which is a broad definition due to the fact that the elements vary for each and every offense, and the cupable mental state which is what you're asking about. Texas has four, intentional, knowing, reckless, and criminal negligence. usually a type of manslaughter would by definition be reckless e.g. intoxication manslaughter, where a person is drunk and drives gets into an accident and kills another person. In texas we would charge the driver with intoxication manslaughter. hope i helped

Most places it would be called either involuntary manslaughter or negligent homicide. There are variations from state to state, but these are the two most common terms.
