I have a black lab and I love him to death! But, I have problems...... I think. Well, I talk to him. Like if it was just me and him in the room I would talk to him and play with him like I would to a normal person. Is that normal and am I sicotic?

No because if you are I am too. I have a yellow Lab and I do the same thing. Hey, he listens all the time, he is always there for me and he loves me no matter what I do or say. He is my baby, I spend more time and more money on him than myself or anyone else. I take him on walks I talk to him, I have had a bad day I talk to him, I take him on car rides I talk to him, matter of fact I talk to him more than humans. There is nothing I would not do for him.

No dogs are a mans best friend. I talk to my dog all the time and I know lots of elderly people that live alone with no person to talk to so they talk to there dog. Also most people who have a dog love them to death which means there part of the family so they treat them like they are. Hence the talking thing. So I personally and about 90% of all people who have a dog wouldn't think your sicotic.

No of course not! I do it all the time! I love my Golden Retriver with all my heart! He's only two (14yrs in dog yrs) and I treat him like my child. I try to take him everywhere I go (as long as dogs are allowed.) When we're in Petco or Petsmart it's like our Shoprite for him. I buy him so much I have to get a cart! I always talk to him too. I know some people think it's crazy, but I know in my heart he understands me or else he wouldn't do as I say. Goldens and Labs need affection, attention, patience and alot of love. You're doing a great job!

What youre doing is very common. Most pet owners like to give their pets some additional personality, by talking to them and in a sense trying to communicate with them. Theres a reason we call dogs Mans(or Womans) best friend. Talking to your dog is ok, just as long as youre not having full blown conversations with him, or flaking on plans with humans in order to stay home and have a meaningful social evening alone with him. Some pet owners even make up 'voices' for their pets to imagine a plausible response based on their pets personality traits. Theres nothin wrong with it or you. Take care!

Why do you think talking to a dog, especially if you live alone, etc, is psychotic? I think that dogs may not always understand every word you say, but they do hear you and your voice and they love it! To them, it is attention to them and if it helps you, then so what? We have 6 dogs and I talk to them, love 'em up and talk to them when I do and I think it's all healthy! It is even shown in studies that people who own and love their pets, have longer lives and lower blood pressures. So your dog must be doing something right and good for you as you are for him!!!! Enjoy him!

You are so normal and I would say you are a very good pet owner because you do take the time with your dog. Sometimes though, do you get that look animals can give you like "how stupid can you be?' - and you respond with "what"?!

Showing a dog that much love is normal. Paying lots of attention to your dog and talking to him will make the dog closer to you and he will listen better. You treat him with respect and he'll treat you with respect.

Sounds normal to me. We have chihuahuas and I talk to them all the time just like they were human beings, and most of the time I think they understand. So far they do not answer in human terms, but maybe one day...lol

I think that's actually quite normal because lots of people like to talk to there animals they're very cute and cuddly so that's probably why. But I think it's normal cuz sometimes I talk to my cat.
