Well i would say if its a big house you all live in get a big dog like a shepard. OR if its a smaller home get a smaller dog. go too the shelter and pick one out .bring the whole family that way you can all agree on the dog you like and shelter dogs need homes the most!

It depends on your family, the space you have and the lifestyle you have.
There are many 'good ' breeds out there of all sizes and shapes, as well as a ton of mixed breed dogs.

What you want to look for is a happy, friendly puppy that will let you lift it over your head, let you lay it on it's back - without struggle. A puppy that is interested in you, who responds to voices. A puppy that will play allot might respond to a moving ball or jangling keys.

You don't want the puppy to cower, spook or hide from other puppies- and you don't want the puppy who bosses everyone else around.

Good breeds are ( and each have their problems) Boxers, Labs, Retrievers, terriers, poodles, Grey hounds and many others plus many cross breeds.

Call a few vets and ask them which breeds of dogs they have the most trouble with, which ones they are seeing that are aggressive or fear biters, which ones are healthy and good with kids (if that's a concern) as depending on the breeders in your area (unless you get an out of state puppy...) the puppies will have traits common to the breeder as well as the breed.

Truthfully, my healthiest and longest lived dogs have been mixes, collie / Australian shepherds, and rottweiler/ mystery dog.

Nobody can tell you the right dog for your family. I took my boys to the dog pound & set in the yard with the puppies. I picked the one that my son could carry & liked & wasn't afraid of little ones. She was a lab mix. Since then we have had several lab mix. In my opionion lab/shepard mix is the best dogs. Good Luck, Becky

Go to www.dogbreedinfo.com. The site has a breed selector. You will be given a survey based on your lifestyle (fenced in yard, allergies, children, activity level). Based on the short survey, several dog breeds will come up and you can read about them. You and your family will then be able to make an educated decision on what breed you like.

i say go into the rescue shelter web sight or SPCA web sight and do this as a family thing not just you and if you find that there are a few that you like go out and visit with them as a family! because most of the time who,s going to get stuck with the little guy or gal? so i say get a mutt they live longer and with less problems then a pure breed! other than that a catahula, golden lab or black lab and a short haired black&white Springer

It all depends on your life style and what you want in a dog. But the Labrador Retrievers are one of the greatest well around dogs you can find. They are great with kids, people, other dogs, and are very versatile. They are highly intelligent and easy to train. They are very loyal and loving. All my life I have had dogs and almost every breed you can think of, but not one as impressed me as much as the Labrador Retriever.

Well it all depends on what kind of family you have. If you have kids then probably a yellow lab. But then if you have older kids then a german shepard or a rottweiller. But it all depends on something.
