I have a yellow Labrador Retriever that plays with the bugs and then eats them when they do not play no more. He does not understand that his playing is killing the bugs. He loves to find grasshoppers, those he will terrorize for the longest time. He throws them in the air, holds them with his paws and when they no longer move he will eat them.

My dogs chase, kill and eat bugs all the time. It's pretty common. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Its a little gross I know but if he catches and eats bug it won't hurt him.

My first bull terrier also got stung by a bee at the park. She had a lump on her head between her pretty ears. Looked like a unicorn. I also laughed. I guess it is not funny. Now my boy has gotten stung several times and I put a cold pack on it and it went down.I watch for any odd reaction. Since then I have eliminated the bees.

My dog does the same thing. He crunches June Bugs to kill them but they must taste awful because he spits them back out. He does the same things with moths.

Yeah, my boxer is obsessed with eating moths. It caused any bad side effects, but I'm sure its not supposed to be part of his diet. Every now and then he'll find a slug, and mess with it for a while, but usually goes back for moths.
