The fact that you have to cook for your children also shouldn't be a worry. In fact it's a great way to get the family eating healhy!

Try and concentrate on buying foods that are good for you rather than "low fat" package foods that are fool of salt and sugar

Just a tip I lost a lot of weight by just cutting out anything that had preservatives or e-numbers (or anything else in the ingredients that I didn't know what it was) in it and switching white pasta/bread to wholemeal.

Techinically all you need to do to lose weight is eat less calories in a day than what you burn. So if you aren't just cooking for yourself give yourself smaller portions than what the family is having that way you don't need to cook 3 meals.

Get yourself a couple of cook books. Jamie Oliver has some fantastic ones. They'll not just give you receipes but also teach you the basics of cooking, how to cook and how to shop for the right food. I got a good cook book recently called "the low fat cookbook" it was really good too.

Good Luck!

Actually the best advice is probably not what you want to hear. Diets don't work. Don't go on a diet. Do try to increase exercise and decrease unhealthy eating choices.

Changing your eating and exercise habits for a short period and then returning to your 'normal' lifestyle is a recipe for disaster. Its very common and it doesn't work.

Instead just slowly and I mean SLOWLY decrease the amount of foods that you eat and SLOWLY substitute healthier choices. You know what I'm talking about.

'Lifestyle change', sounds like such a terrible torture but it isn't. Remember that its what you do on a regular basis that counts not what you do for a limited duration (diets don't work - none of them! - its all a big lie).

It doesn't have to be painful or boring though. You can keep on doing and eating everything you like, just slowly evolve to healthier choices. Once you substitute healthier exercise and eating patterns into your regular life, you will WANT to continue them. The key is making the transition SLOWLY so that you don't stress yourself out mentally or physically and it feels like a natural progression.

Remember fitness is a process and not an achievement. You can't stop your healthy choices once you reach your goal or you will immediately start backsliding. If you really listen to your body then you will not want to change your healthier lifestyle.

Don't try "starvation" diets that lower your calories a great deal. Your body adjusts to a conservative level, so your metabolism decreases and your burn fewer calories. You need to cut back on foods with a high fat content. I'm sure that may be difficult as a chef. Drink lots of water. Exercise increases your metabolism and burns calories at the same time, so try to exercise for about 30 minutes each day.

Well basically diet pills don't work because you still would need to exercise and still need to eat healthy. Diet pills don't do much so just eat right and exercise.
If exercising drink water every 5-7 during workout and workouts should be at least 30 min.

If you are cooking for your family too its hard not to want to eat what they eat, cook healthy foods with salad or veg and dont fill them up on chips or too many carbs. Your children will benefit too. I am on a diet at the moment and finding it very hard especially when I have to cook yummy stuff. I have cheated and didnt lose any weight last week so beware!

Diets don't work - when you come off them you will gain what you have lost + more.
You need to train yourself to cut back on everything - eat smaller portions.
