if maintaining is harder, what makes it much harder?

I'd say losing is harder, but then again, if you've dropped a lot and are trying to stay at a new low weight it can be tricky. Really when you attempt to lose weight you have to make "lifestyle changes" opposed to going on a strict diet. This way you're doing things that you can keep up. Often people have a hard time maintaining a certain weight because they've gotten to that weight by strict diet or unrealistic exercise routines. If you can't stick with your new ways for good, your body packs a few pounds on.

Maintaining, for sure.

Losing weight is straightforward for me. As my great Aunt used to say 'it's easy to lose weight dear, you simply eat a little less.' However, continuing to eat a little less and avoid binges isn't so simple!

Keeping it up for a short amount of time while I drop a few pounds is all good, but then I give up simply because I can't maintain the healthy lifestyle for as long as I need to, and it all goes back on again!

I've had a harder time losing it. I find maintaining only difficult in times of personal stress. Losing it requires the life style change and eating less.

Neither.

I can lose weight easily and maintain the weight I want to be at easily. I workout, eat right, and if I start to lose or gain weight I simply adjust my calorie intake accordingly.
