If its the first date...suck it up and see what she wants to see..hahaha and if she says..it doesn't matter we can see whatever...then suggest a comedy...unless she likes horror or something...best way to find out is just ask her which type she prefers.

Pick a movie you think she would like to go see, then ask her what she thinks of that movie.

You should always ask what movie she would like to see, unless it is a surprise outing, but you should let her know what your choices of movies to see are too, and agree to see a movie you both would like to see.

it can be a much more enjoyable date if something you both will enjoy seeing - whether rental or movie theater

well, being in a relationship means giving and accepting. i believe that if you sit together and review what movies are available to see you can make it a mutual dicision. pick the flick together.
