Whenever people get mad & freaked out about exstensive real estate deals being done they start bashing various groups. For a long while it was Japan, lately Singapore & Hong Kong have been accused of muscling in. Hawai'i was an Independent Kingdom until a group of Americans overthrew the Monarchy and after a few years as an Independent Republic became a Territory of the US or A and then in 1959 a State.

Peace...

No that rumor is not true. I live in Hawaii and know its history. It used to be the Hawaiian Kingdom and we were not ruled by the British. Britain did have an influence on us however. The Hawaiian Kingdom used to be a small country on its own. Our last ruling monarch was Queen Liliuokalani. She was taken captive by the U.S. and after that, U.S. just took over and made us a state. Without our permission! While she was imprisoned, she wrote the state anthem Hawai'i Pono'i.

I like this rumor! Too bad it isn't true. Yet. Hahah! The British and the Russians and designs on Hawaii but Americans overthrew the Queen and took over.

A touchy point, even now.

Actually it was formerly a colony of Liechtenstein, but that country lost it in the 28 Year War of 1743.

that is a rumor. hawaii has been ruled by no one else before it became a state except for the british. if you look at the hawaii state flag, it looks a lot like the british flag. not until the queen realized that it was tricked, that she has given it back.
