definitely add a few gravy granules...you won't regret it, the taste of the meat will be much stronger...and a little rioja usually adds a bit of "zing" too :)

Double concentrate tomato puree is my trick. Sometimes i pre-cook finely chopped carrots and add tem right at the end. You could also add kidney beans (they don't go mushy). Never had anything but complimentsa on my speg bols.

A glass of red wine or a dash of balsamic vinegar. I always put a teaspoon or so of sugar in mine to counteract the acidity of the tomatoes.

Also a couple of teaspoons of Marmite is nice.

i add mushrooms and carrots a dash of chillies and a blob of wocestershire sauce. I always serve it with cheese on the top and garlic bread, ya making me hungry....................oh and a stockcube in the beef when you are browning it, think i will make one for tonights supper cheers. Dont add red wine cause ya can drink that with your meal.......

i think its the mince and the sauce that makes spag bol tasty i always use quorn mince and a dolmio sauce then sprinke lots of mature chedder on the top and serve........yum

A couple drops of hot sauce (tabasco, etc), a bit of worcestershire, and a teaspoon of brown sugar.
