Seems to me that once you've said "okay god, I believe and I'll say whatever prayers you like and I'll tithe and give to the poor and be the kind of person your son was," that should be enough.

So why wouldn't god simply smile and say, "fine, thanks kid, now go enjoy your life, I'll be seeing you in threescore years and ten" ? Why would he add, "if you don't believe you won't be seeing me at all" ?

Does this really make sense to believers?

Why would he create beings who had the capacity to sin, and were in fact incapable of not sinning, and then punish them for it? That's kind of like punishing a retarded child for not getting As. It's cruel and senseless.

If he loves us, why would he want us to suffer because we make mistakes?

It's a way to control people.

Frankly, I think life on Earth is the true hell. We're all working our way out of here!

I am wondering why God didn't consult you before he created Heaven and Earth. You seem to think that your mind as limited as it is is greater than the mind of God. God gives man free will. He does say go on and enjoy your life. I really enjoy mine , a lot more now than I did before I came to know Jesus as Savior. I thought I was enjoying life, but when my eyes were really opened, I learned what real Joy is. God does not condemn man to hell, man condemns his own self to hell by not accepting Jesus.

First: God is God and has no gender. Second: God is Love; love without limit or end. If God requires acceptance of anything or anyone on our part, it falls within limitless love to offer an opportunity for accepance after death when one stands before God fully understanding that love. Nobody would reject it at that point. Therefore, nobody goes to hell.

Hell is not a threat, it is a promise.

If you are a child of God, then you will want to do His will here on earth, not your will, that would make you your own God.

The point is that we are human and not perfect. If we were to live according to our weakness, we would all go to hell.

Because God is trying to help us get to heaven through His son Jesus and the Church He established, we have a way to avoid hellfire and be with Him in heaven.

WE (who are of sound mind and are capable of reason) all have freewill, it is our choice whether we abide in the will of God or not.

One who believes will act according to those beliefs.

God will not violate His Word. He said the penalty forsin is death. He isn't like us, He won't change to conform to us. But He does know that we are incapable of keeping His law. That's why He sent Jesus. It's not a threat. I want to live for Him not for insurance in the agterlife, but because He loved me will I was at my worst and still chose me

God has never threatened his Children with hellfire. God has simply stated I am life without me you can not have life.

That is just the way it is. If you don't choose God you are choosing death.

For the same reasons a parent reminds a child to "be careful" every time they leave the house.

Most people don't just get on with their prayers and charity. Most go back to a life they're not proud of. A primitive deterrent though it may be, lots of people need to be threatened to get something decent out of them. And a little knowledge is a dangerous thing...questions like these do nobody any good.

No, that makes no sense, and that's not what God says. If you already are a believer, then why would He say 'if you don't believe..."?

Hellfire isn't a threat, it's a consequence.

He does not do that to His Children. To Satan's children, now that is another thing. The rest of you 'question' "Seems to me ...." It seems to me that you have not had a heart change. You are still looking for ways to blame God for things that are not God's fault.
