Ok, now if you are "for real" I'm going to get technical. I am not sure if you really do believe in God, but this is how it works. There are followers of Christianity who pursue God's words avidly, there is a passage in the bible that says John the baptist (the only prophet given authority to baptize) didn't want to baptize Jesus because John knew that Jesus was without sin, so to baptize Him might be contradictory. But Jesus said it is necessary to keep things righteous to be baptized (cuz that's what God wants) & it was more like to set an example.
Now, if you really want to follow Jesus, the baptizing is just a formal way of saying you will consciously sin no more. And once you come up from the water, you are reborn ~ and all things become new. God bless.
But I believe there is room for error there, cuz if you've never even heard of that story I don't see how God would punish you for not even knowing? But either way~ you only truly have faith if you are a good person. Cuz if u have faith~ you WANT to be a good person for God.

We are in the image of God. Body, soul & spirit. When we purposely, knowingly, disobey or rebel against God at the age of accountability, we die spiritually (like the first Adam). Then we are spiritually blinded & handicapped . Our sins separate us from God. The wages of sin is death. Our works are dead works, because of spiritual deadness.
Jesus said that we needed to be rebirthed spiritually to see the Kingdom of God. The little children who love Jesus are an example of the Kingdom of God. They have not purposely & knowingly rebelled against God. So we need to repent for not believing in God & the the Only Begotten Son of God. And believe in the heart the Atonement & Resurrection. This is being spiritually rebirthed and can go to the Father & Jesus 24/7 in spirit & truth. This is being born again. It is a restored relationship with God.
I don't know if Gandhi rejected the message of the Good News of reconciliation to God. He may not have. If He hasn't rejected God, & wasn't presented the Good News correctly, He is in a place of rest and not in a place of torment. The ones that go to heaven are those redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Because even one sin will keep one out of heaven. There has to be an atonement for sin.

No -you are already a good person, given your understanding, Christ said you must be born again of the spirit, meaning when you practice meditation prayer, self examination, helping others etc you will be living spiritually.
I think it's about knowing you are a spiritual being having a human experience and raising your consciousness.

No you don't. Scripture is speaking to the bias that we filter everything through. In learning new concepts this filter changes what is told into our own limited understanding. We are being asked to set aside what we have learned to this point in order to see another view. It would be like being born again because you would be learning from scratch with no preconceived ideas.
We are reluctant to give up what we know. A thing that is set in motion tends to continue in that motion. Friction to stop it is uncomfortable.

Matthew 7:21 says we must believe in the Lord and live our lives in a manner that pleases the Lord. Why should the Lord accept anyone into His kingdom who denies His existence? Someone can be an exceptional human being, but they didn't do the one thing that God truly wants from us (believe in our Creator), so eternal life in His kingdom is denied.

"Born again"refers to an epic event for truthseekers. They find what they are looking for.The truth is so staggering and beyond words, one is left changed to the core,it's as if one is born again.Don't believe anyone that tells you you must do penance of any kind. You already are a"good"person whether you believe in any god.Be a great individual.Create your life now and co-create a sane world with those you share a world with.

the best people out there it seems are NOT born again christians so yes people such as ghandi IF he didnt ask Jesus to forgive his sins he is in hell the Word flatly says that there is no mis-understanding there is only ONE-WAY to everlasting life ONE-WAY to GOD & Heaven & that is thru Jesus Christ ---ACTS 4;12 says it this way----------Jesus....Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given, among Men wherby we must be saved!!! If you are a very very good human that does not allow you in GODS presense but,,,,,,,if Jesus Christ is in your life-heart-spirit it will make you good in a way that pleases GOD..He isnt a respector of persons being good I think is a normal human quality giving of oneself is christian of sorts you are a servant but without Jesus Christ its all vanity

Being born again means you are born of the spirit of God, which comes by repentance of your sins, and accepting Jesus as your savior. No one enters heaven by way of anything they do, and that includes Ghandi. Jesus said "unless a man be born again, he will not enter the kingdom of heaven".
