with a preg wife and a 2-year-old im trying to assemble some snacks and small meals on the weekend that they can have during the week. Anyone have any ideas on things that could be stored in ziplock containers or frozen until they need it.

Who the heck gave you a thumbs down for this sweet question? I'll give it a thumbs up to counter it. Any way....

Try fruit salads with canned fruits mixed with fresh fruits.
Also mixtures of nuts and dried fruit.
cut veggies with rach dressing is good and haelthy to have on hand too.
Another easy and healthy snack are wraps. Get tortilla bread and spread light cream cheese on it, then add rotisserie chicken(you buy akready cooked) and avocados. The wrap tightly and cut ona diagonal. Yum
Good luck and how sweet of you to prepare things for your pregnant wife and toddler.

An easy wholesome snack is,
mix in a large bowl,
1. Cheerios
2. dried fruit, i.e., raisins, banana chips, dried apple slices, etc. (these call all be purchased at your local grocery)
3. small pretzel sticks or small pretzel twists
4. rice chex
5. Do NOT put nuts in this mixture due to the fact your child could choke on them.
6. Mix well and put in zip lock bags.

Since your wife is pregnant she needs extra vitamins and minerals, keep plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables on hand. If they are already washed, sliced and bagged in the frig they will be much easier for her and the child to eat.

Soups are a great cook ahead thing to have on hand. She can re-heat and have with a sandwich or some crackers and cheese. Soup can also be made in large quantities and frozen in serving size containers.

Casseroles are another great make ahead dish and they can be frozen too.

Oatmeal/Raisen cookies spread with peanut butter are great, healthy and filling.

For lots more ideas go to Recipezaar they have over 100,000 recipes.

Good luck and your wife is lucky to have such a considerate husband.

Soups, lasagna, keep cottage cheese and LOTS of crackers around. String cheese! Good for snacking, and good for you, and kids love it. Jello? Her favorite casserole?

My favorite snack is a slice of deli ham rolled up with a piece of Amercian cheese. Mom always had those on a tray in the fridge for snacks. Just keep them covered.
