We were talking about dating and why i could never seem to get one. she said i was just like the popular people. only talking to my friends and no one else. that's not true! i talk to everyone that i can. i don't know why i can't get a date but it's not because i don't talk to people. what should i say to her after she called me an jerk?

It sounds like your mom didn't call you a jerk but that you feel that's what she must have meant by comparing you to the popular people at your school. Your mom may have been trying to be supportive. (But then again, maybe not.) Here's the thing. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." So let your mom have her opinions (whatever they are) and focus instead on how you feel about yourself.

And here's the other thing. Everyone--no matter who they are--can stand to talk to more people and break out of their shell even more. Another thing Eleanor said is "Do one thing every day that scares you." So talk to someone new every day. It sounds like you're already on the right track since you talk to everyone you can. And you'll get a date eventually. Or, maybe you'll quit waiting for someone else to do all the work and ask someone out. Good luck!

You know guys act all tough and big but they're usually afraid to talk to someone that they consider to be out of their league. As for your Mom I'd say sit down and talk to her and tell her that what she said really hurt you. Tell her what your school life is like and let her know your true feelings. I'm sure she didn't mean it in a negative way but I understand why you feel hurt. One of the best ways to meet someone is through friends. Maybe try to expand your group of friends, meet some new people...you never know who they might know. There are so many "clicks" in school. I remember it being very tough and I was too shy sometimes to ask out a really pretty, popular girl even though I was pretty popular myself. I was afraid of being turned down in front of my buddies. Someone will come along....you may have to make the first move if there's someone you're interested in. Just start a easy going conversation with them and maybe invite them out with a group of friends. Good luck with your Mom.

why not zero in on a girl that you like buy her a flower and then introduce yourself that might get things rolling after that say did you check out that new movie thats playing at the movies ? if she said no ask her if she would go to the movies with you to see that movie. the worst thing she could say is no . if it is no try another girl. happy hunting , you sly dog!!!!
