Christians seem to use the Bible like its open to interpretation instead of reading it and doing Gods will ie to care and help the poor of our society. No using the Bible to cop out of the question!

In the New Testament of the Holy Bible, Jesus sharpest criticism was directed at the religious leaders and scholars. Jesus spent most of his time with the "undesirable" caste (e.g. prostitutes, money changers, the poor and the destitute). In Jesus own words he denounced the religious leaders chasting them that not only do they not go to heaven but prevent those who want to from doing so. Christians not practicing what the bible teaches is an old problem dating all of the way back to time of Jesus. I sincerely doubt that it will change anytime soon. Gandhi, the civil rights activist from India, once said he would have converted in to Christianity if not for Christians. He found the principles of Christianity to be very noble but poorly praticed. God willing, I hope the Christian community will change for the better.

Helping the poor would mean sacrifice, to give something of what they have - and they think this is too hard and they are too selfish for it. Instead they like to relax on thinking that Jesus died for their sins and all they have to do is to believe that - and when some Bible quote fits what they want to do anyway, e.g. when it justifies corporal punishment of children, they are fast to quote it.
I know this doesn't apply for all Christians and there are Christians who really do good things and care for others.
By the way I do donate for organizations that help the poor (in poor countries) - not because of the Bible, I am not Christian, but because I think it is right and I get sad that most people don't care about how people die and suffer because of poverty. The problem here really is the selfishness of the rich.

Why do Christians not practice what the bible teaches? 1. The word of God in this country (USA) has been added to, (more than once), violating 2 Tim. 3:16-17. I will stop- with that point here for this moment.

I don't know. Apparenrlty (according to all the Muslims on here) the Koran teaches peace and love, so why do Muslims blow up innocent civillians?? They are obviously not "practising" what the koran teaches now are they?

So its not just Christians.

As for helping the poor, most of the American right wing Christians just have this "I earned it I'm keeping it the poor have only themselves to blame" nasty selfish attitude. They don't give a shite for those less fortunate as long as they have their nice big comfy house ande car and all the mod cons. Thats their argument against our British NHS system and our social security benefit system. Pure selfishness. Very "Christian" don't you think?

Why don't YOU practice what the Bible teaches? Ever hear of Christian Children's Fund, Feed the Children, churches, Christian organizations by the thousands that care, help, and feed the poor of our societies?

you're right alot of Christians today dont follow the Bible as they should. this is because the Bible is more than a book, but a spirtual guide. to be spiritual means to let go of your fleshy desires and follow the ways of God. its not easy, we need the help of the Holy Ghost.

God bless

Christians are save by Grace. And from a different assortment of sins. Each is unique, peculiar & special. Some are baby Christians, and some are mature, and some are in between in their maturity. Some are carnal & suffer God's discipline.. Some drink the milk of the Word, some eat the Living Bread of the Word, and some eat the meat. And each has a special calling & purpose in their Christian walk.

Are you a Christian, and do you renew your mind in the Word of God? Are you washing daily in the Word & being renewed in God's Spirit? Judge not lest you be judged.

Also it is written to test God, to bring all our tithes & offerings into the storehouse so there is bread for His children. To test Him in it, that He will pour out a blessing abundantly above all we can ask or think. Also, when God blesses us abundantly, we sow more abundantly to help those in need. Perfect religion before God is love for others in their need. How can a Christian help others unless God blesses them with abudance first. We can not give unless God has given us something to give.

You are experiencing the paradigm shift in thinking and society. Our pastors and leaders have allowed these philosophical practices to enter the church. Now instead of reading the scriptures for clear interpretation, we have a dialetic process (a discussion about what is right or wrong, then everyone is encouraged or coerced to reach a consensus). It is saddening and the reason that I don't attend church anymore.

You have a valid point for many Christians who are Christians in name only. Many do twist the scriptures to conform to what they want not conforming themselves to Gods commandments!

But your assessment is unfair and biased. What about those Christians who do live for God and follow his commandments. These are the selfless people who put themselves aside to do Gods will on this earth every day. I am not saying there are many but they are out there.

They should not be hard to spot in this society if you go to where they work and I am not talking about church.

In my opinion Christians help everyone just because someone has money dos not mean they are not poor in another sense. All the Christians i know do their fair bit for the community, because someone is a christian it dos not mean they are perfect and they don't claim to be.
Bill Wilson that's what you call a christian look him up you might change your mind.
