What nickname would a child named Xavier have?

My husband and I are considering the name Xavier but are unsure of how it would be shortened. We're not into nicknames but realize that people tend to shorten names.

My friends name is Xavier and we call him Zavy for short. You can call him Zave when he grows older. To me, I like Xavier just fine, no need for knick names.

I think if you like the name Xavier, you should name him that and insist that people call him as such. Whenever people tried to shorten my name, they were, and still are, quickly corrected that their shortened version is NOT my name. When the child gets to be an adult, it's his choice then to decide what to accept people calling him.

One of my best friend's names is Xavier. We call em "Zav"...it's pronounced like that but I'm not sure how you'd spell it. I think it's an absolutely beautiful name too!

If they speak Spanish, Javi (Ha-Vee) or Cha-Vee (we had a Spanish exchange student named Xavier, and that's what his friends called him.
