We have a pug now. He is 2 years old. He is nuetered. I have 3 small children all under the age of 5. I am now looking for a good breed that is sturdy yet small. He is great with dogs so that will be no problem. I really don't want to get another Pug. Just something different. And I don't want to get a designer breed. Can't stand them. I am a stay at home mom so I would be here all day to take care of the new puppy. I have been researching breeds that are small yet sturdy and its very hard and I can't make up my mind. But anyway, Thanks for the help everyone.

This is a personal decision that only you can make cuz you know what is best for your family. I chose a chihuahua & I have 2 rambunctious boys 6 years & 18 months....but that was what I thought was best for my family as I live in a condo & I am also a stay at home mum.

Check out these websites:

www.gotpetsonline.com
-has listings for registered breeders, discussion forums with professional breeders, vets & trainers to answer your questions & classified type of ads as well as breed information & pictures.

also try....
www.petfinder.com

I found my breeder on gotpetsonline & she's excellent!
She offers free lifetime dog watching services at her kennel & even sent a care package home with my pup that included a dog carrier, doggie sweater, shampoo, treats, food & coupons.

Good Luck!!!!

Check out www.dogbreedinfo.com and take the breed selector survey. The site has great information. Based on what you find, you can probably find a mix breed (or a full breed) on petfinder.com

I love French Bulldogs ( I have an English Bulldog and a Great Dane/Mastiff/Lab mix). French Bulldogs are small, and sturdy dogs...But are very pricey. look at the Boston Terrier. The Boston a compact, sturdy dog that although I think somewhat similar in look to Pugs, and French Bulldogs, they don't have as severe a smashed in face so they have fewer breathing problems

If your not wanting a designer breed so you say, Go to the Pet shelter & save a life. Really any breed should get along fine w/Pugs.

Corgis are great small, sturdy dogs, not to mention adorable. They are great with kids and keep up with them to. I used to have one to help herd the horses, they are little but tough. If I were to get a small dog again I would without a doubt get one of those or the Cumber Spaniel. The King Charles Cavaliers are also great dogs. Very companion oriented and loving.

you should look at basenjis. they might be a little big (17 inches at the shoulder) but only get to around 20-24 pounds. the good thing about them is that they rarely bark, and their behavior is somewhat like a cat. if you want to read more into them, look at this site on wikipedia

Just be sure your choose more towards a dog for your other dog more than a choice to please you. Ask a vet or a pet store. You need to think in terms of a good friend for your dog.
