tell him the truth and that you hope he'll ask you again ... or give up your rule and make an exception with him.

I really don't see need for that kind of rule.... I don't know why you have this rule, but whatever is the reason, you shouldn't! World won't be any better next year, and you don't have to do anything that YOU don't want too. But, you want to date him, so what's stopping you? YOU are stoppin yourself! Look, I'm telling this because I really have the xpirience. life will stop you many times from now, so you don't have to complicate it even more! There is always a way... Believe me, he will haunt you through your life, not because you love him, or anything, but because you missed the opportunity! You'll keep wondering : What if... or why... Then it might be late for you two...
I mentioned on the beginning your reasons... Believe me, if it's about school and studying, you have plenty of time for both! I mean, you'll have to balance him and your school, but if you organize your time properly, you can find yourself in love, with straight A's! Or If you think that you're too young for a steady relationship, you are wrong! If you like this guy, that means you are old enough to date him!
That brings us back on the start when I told you that you don't have to do absolutely ANYTHING that you don't want to... (as long as your wants are according to law, ofcourse).
Hope you'll listen my advice. If I had someone to tell me that stuff, I won't found myself regretting for the chances I've missed years ago...

Is there any special logics behind for "don't want to date until next year"??
If because of exams, maybe you can have a time-out with him. Rest, in order to work at peak.
If have other reasons... perhaps should state it out.
Anyway, do seize the chance since you like him! Go! Go! Go!

If you don't want to date til next year then tell him that. Otherwise, if you really like him and are willing to break the rule then date. Opportunities can pass you by, I always just follow my heart. Good luck!

Well if you said no, then there is not much you can do. But take it back and date him. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. Im sure by next year he will think you are still just as cute and like yuo just as much. Just keep in touch!

From what I can tell from your profile, you're young. Which means that you shouldn't worry about it right now. Stay single and wait it out for a while. If he really cares about you, he'll just keep your friendship going and see how it goes from there. Good luck and make wise decisions.

Find some "non-dating" activity that you both can share, and stick to your guns about not dating until next year.
He'll either respect you for it, or he's not as good as you think he is.

Depends how old you are. If you are too young, set the date for a couple of years from now, and have him put it on his calendar.

maybe you shouldn't have said no. now he might think you're not interested and you could lose your chance with him. think about why you won't date til next year and then maybe bend the rules a bit if you really like this guy.
