it depends on what kind of beans. if you mean raw beans, then you first pour the bag of beans in a bowl so you can sort through the beans and pick out rocks and bad looking beans.
first you have to boil the beans clean
then for a 1 pound bag of beans you will need a 3-4 quart stock pot pan.
pour beans into pan, fill with water had a teaspoon of baking soda and bring the beans to a boil, the baking soda will clean and degas the beans.
after the beans come to a boil let it boil for an hour.
then drain the beans and water, rinse the beans with cold water making sure you rinse all the beans good.
ok now fill your pan with the beans and clean cold water, then add salt, bring the beans to another boil and let if boil for another hour, after the beans are tender then you can add any flavor you want.

Here's all you need to know:
Soak your beans in warm water at least 8 hours. Overnight is best. Fill water to one finger length over the beans and add one Tablespoon of baking soda to the water. The baking soda will eliminate bloating and gas associated with eating beans and the water soak will cut cooking time to half and make for a more uniformly cooked bean.
Drain and cook over low with fresh water two finger legths over the beans. Don't add salt until the beans are slightly cooked b/c it results in a toughened skin.
Cook until soft. then add one small can of tomato paste and half of a fresh lemon and adjust salt to taste.
Serve with a few diced tomatoes, a small drizzel of olive oil and a little chopped parsley on top. Pair with some crusty bread. YUMMMM

You'll need roughly 3 times the amount of water as the amount of beans. Make sure to rinse them a couple or 3 times before you put 'em in the pot. Take some bacon ends and pieces and throw them in there too. Salt, pepper, garlic, onions, and cilantro. Quarter some tomatoes and chop a few jalapeno peppers. Cook your beans for close to an hour at full boil and taste test them to see if they are soft enough. The hulls should split. Once the hulls split add you tomatoes and jalapenos and boil for another ten minutes. Serve with cornbread or as a side dish. Careful you don't put too many jalapenos or you'll regret it later and wash your hands after handling them as well.

If you mean dried beans then you need to soak them overnight in cold water. When cooking, drain the water and refill with cold water. Bring to the boil and boil for ten minutes then turn down the heat and simmer for a further 40 minutes or until tender. Do not add salt as this will make the beans tough.
You can use this method with most beans, haricot, black-eyed, butter beans, kidney beans and chick peas.
If you mean fresh beand, string beans, runner beans or French beans then boil in salted water for about 20 minutes.
If you mean baked beans, heat until warm or microwave for 1 minute.

It depends on the beans. Most dried beans need to be soaked overnight or for 12 hours before being cooked. Then use your favourite recipe. Check out this site for recipe sources:
