in real life (or at least in the church I visited this morning), the wafers were placed in the hands of the people, and they put it in their own mouths. But on tv, I saw the priest putting it on the peoples' tongues. Why is there a difference?

In the catholic tradition when my mother was a little girl, only the priest was allowed to touch the host (wafer) with his hands. Now, it is acceptable for people other than the priest to touch the host. Some folks still stick to the original tradition and have the host placed on their tongue.

do no longer think of God approves of any variety of cannibalism. At any value, Jesus could no longer have meant that his followers have been actually to devour his flesh and drink his blood. Why no longer? After the Flood of Noah’s day, while God gave guy permission to devour the flesh of animals, he immediately forbade guy to devour blood. (Genesis 9:3, 4) This command replace into repeated in the Mosaic regulation, which Jesus obeyed totally. (Deuteronomy 12:23; a million Peter 2:22) And the apostles have been stimulated with the aid of holy spirit to resume the command against ingesting blood, making that regulation binding upon all Christians. (Acts 15:20, 29) might Jesus institute an observance that would require his followers to violate a sacred decree of Almighty God? impossible! of course, then, Jesus used the bread and wine as symbols. The unleavened bread meant, or represented, his sinless physique which would be sacrificed. The pink wine signified his blood which would be poured out “in behalf of many for forgiveness of sins.”—Matthew 26:28.

You're given a choice. Most churches that do that will put the wafer on your tongue unless you don't want them to.
