When you reformate a memory card, all pictures on it will be lost.!
If you read error, you've got to find the real problem. It needn't be the card. Maybe the piles are too feeble to retrieve pictures or the link between camera and computer is not okay?
If you don't find the mistake, you can still try to get the pictures burnt on a CD-Rom in a photo shop, or they might find out what's wrong.
GOOD LUCK

If it reads error, you are SOL. Yup, sorry you have lost your pics.
Just reformat and get on with other things.

It is just as simple and plain as that.

If the pics. are very valuable and irreplaceable, try data retreiving companies (yellow pages). They are good at this sort of thing but I do not hold too much hope. It doesn't hurt to try and be prepared to shell out some big bucks. This, you will do only if the pics - as I said - are valuble and irreplaceable.

This is when you say, "I wish I bought a Sandisk or Lexar card and installed their free image recovery software."

Read the other answers where some users recommend sites to buy 3rd party image recovery software.
