Portion control, portion control, portion control! Eating breakfast is a must! And I don't mean bacon and eggs either! Get used to eating hot or cold cereal, and fruit for breakfast. Lunch should be a 4oz portion of meat or other protein food, and a big salad. Dinner, the same as lunch and add two more veggies. Remember, one portion is a cup of raw or 1/2 cup of cooked veggies. The darker green, the better for you. Although cabbage and celery are great choices too. Don't eat more than one serving of bread a day, and make it whole grain. No more than one serving of red meat in a week. Stay away from soft drinks, even the diet ones! Drink 64oz of water a day. Green and black teas are great for losing weight and count as water consumption. Eat a healthy snack between lunch and dinner. Eat a low-calorie dessert that is portion controlled, but at least 4 hours before going to bed. No I'm not an expert, but I've done alot of research on this subject, since I had 150 pounds to lose! So far I've lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks, which is great! This is how I did it. It takes the body a little time to get used to all those veggies, so hang in there! There are some "free" foods that will help keep you from feeling deprived. Sugar-free jello, and popcorn are two good ones. Also, I use Splenda, to make cookies and keep them around for when I really have a craving, but I only eat a couple. One more tip...check into "colon cleansing." I won't go into detail, but there are many web sites on the subject, and it has REALLY helped me to be able to lose so much weight in so short a time! Good luck to you!

I would say yes. Fad diets such as low carb, carrot, cabbage soup etc will get some weight off but it wont stay off.
I have lost 4stone in the last 4 months (thats 10 inches off my waist!!!). I basically eat a variety of fruit and veg (preferring my veg raw or very lightly steamed to maintain vitamin content), red meat only once a week, white meat twice a week and oily fish twice a week. That gives me 2 meat free days. I vary the fish I eat, and with the meat I mainly eat game (skinned) and beef.
Vary your veggies according to season, go for unusal veg and try new recipies. I experiment with vegetarian recipes on meat free days and my family never know what wonderful creation will land on the table lol.
I also like to try out various herbs and spices, I find that using these I add flavour and can cut down on added salt.
If you steer clear of high fat content foods and try to eat complex carbohydrates this will help weight loss. And don't forget to do some exercise, a brisk walk for 30 minutes once a day will do wonders for weight loss.
Take a look at the site below and consider using the GI diet, it is fab and about the only one that I have found that REALLY works. I didn't find out about it until I became diabetic, but I wish I had know about it years ago!!!

No, variety is not the key to weight loss
I have always fought the weight situation.
The most satisfactory regimen I have found is the low carbohydrate approach.
I have lost 6-8 inches in the waist and continue to maintain.
It is easy, basically.
You can eat a lot of protein, and basically just have to steer clear
of bread, rice, potatoes.
You can even drink, if you wish.
Most diets just dont work. Check Atkins, South Beach, etc.
They WILL work and they are not hard to follow

Yes, variety makes sure you get all the nutrients your body needs which keeps you from overeating. The best way you ask?
Try new things. There hundreds of different kinds of fruits and veggies! try as many as you can! Always look for new healthy recipes. Make it goal to try one new meal, one new fruit, and one new veggie, at least a week! Have fun, be brave! try new things, never eat the same thing twice!

Try to eat steamed vegetables more often. Or you can mix the vegetabled with salt substitute (regular salt will increase you blood pressure very high) and fry them in an extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil is little more expensive, but it's good for your body and skin.
