offense is in the eye of the beholder. There is nothing wrong with being silly as long as you're not being hurtful to another person. Some times a situation calls for silliness, other times seriousness. Use your best judgement.

Whichever the situation calls for. Get used to the different types of people your chatting with. Some you can be light hearted with, others don't like it. Remember as well that things can be interpreted different in type than when your talking with somebody naturally because the emotions not there.

It depends on the religion. Some believe that being serious is the proper behavior. However, I believe that, "A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken." Proverbs (ch. XV, v. 13)

Neither is offensive and both attitudes can be spiritually beneficial. Laughing is a good thing. Then be serious when it is called for.

it would depend on the context and the timing.

Context - do not be overly wise or wicked, says the Bible.

Timing - there's a time for everything, says the Bible.

Both are from the same chapter coincidentally.

Actually, I think it is more accurate to say that being religious is silly, in a rational sense.

Motivation is everything, as God reads the HEART.
Why we say what we say.
People hide many hateful things behind humor.
"I was just playin'"
But people know better, because what one says isn't FUNNY.
So if one can't fool people, so does one think he can fool God?

Both and neither.
each one has a time and a place.
funerals are sober.
parties are lighthearted.
*if your a believer- a funeral is both for the believer.
its a welcoming home party after death.
