No a lemon is a lemon and a lime is a lime but they both can do the same thing so it really does not matter. But a lemon is not green when growing and a lime is green when growing their different in color and a slightly different in taste and their both used for flavoring in the food industry and is also used in soaps, detergents and perfumes.

Key limes are different. I don't have experience with other types of limes. I'm told that a lot of what we see as "limes" are just unripe lemons, but you can certainly taste the difference between an unripe lemon and a key lime. Unripe key limes are green.

a lime is a lime, not an unripe lemon. And an unripe lime is still green.
