On a weekday it takes ~3hrs to go from carlisle to london, but on weekends it takes 6hrs. Why is this and will it be resolved?

because of engineering and essential maintenance work you should try to avoid traveling by train on weekend's particularly on the west coast line which is currently going through a £5billion upgrade

It's almost certainly bound to be due to engineering works. There is always something going on, so there's no guarantee it will ever improve at weekends, but it should do theoretically!

Check out Network Rail's Engineering site for details of what's happening and when - at least you don't have to get off the train and take a coach / bus for part of the journey - that really can be a pain in the backside!

no longer the fault of Virgin. At weekends, national Rail (that's the little bit of the railways owned with the aid of the government), dictate that further time is equipped into the timetables for planned (and, specially situations, mythical) engineering works. If the franchises had observed the suggestion of the expert transport operators and included vertical integration (that's the place the prepare working businesses are responsible for track maintenance, as on the Isle of Wight), then such un-necessary delays could have been minimised. as that's, there is little incentive for the government or national Rail to alter their modern practices.

I would guess engineering works. Over the last few years, there have been extensive engineering works going on every weekend across the network.

I would say that the weekend workers are lackadaisical...And want to stop and smell the roses...They want to enjoy the sites the ride has to offer...

Because the engineers, are too busy shagging their sheep during their lunch break , and so have no energy to finish the job on time.
