The instructions on the ham say I have to put it in a shallow baking pan and cover it in foil. I do not have a baking pan, but I have a 5.6L dutch oven that can go in a conventional oven at no more than 350F. Is it a suitable substitution?

If you don't have a rasied bottom in your dutch oven, then I'd put a few onions or potatoes on the bottom of the dutch oven and then pour a can of coke or beer in. Lay the ham on top of the onions or potatoes, close the lid and let it cook on about 280-325 for a few hours! Enjoy!

A dutch oven should work, however cooking time is going to be completely different as you're 'blocking' the heat of the oven from the ham. Just keep a check on it, and don't let it 'boil' (keep the majority of fluid drained off, save it for gravy! *grin*)

100% yes I always cook my ham in a crock pot,, so the dutch over will work the same way,,

also I love to baste my ham with either apple sauce or apple butter, both make it moist and sweet,, and it's a different take on the pineapple topping.

Good luck sounds yummy

Yes it is as long as the lid can close completely with the ham inside.
