Firstly, has he asked you to marry him ? It is obviously far too soon for you to get engaged - why else would you be asking such a " silly little girl " question. To be perfectly honest I can see no point in getting engaged, it's as if people do it for the sake of getting presents and a ring, that's so shallow and certainly no basis for a long and happy marriage. I wish you happiness in your life. My husband & I met in mid January 1999 and married in July 1999, we loved each other so deeply that we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, our wedding, which was the most perfect day of our lives cost no more than £250.00.

If you know both each other; there is not at all a particular time to get engaged. It`s all about your feelings about the other and shows how much you care. Any way lot of people are getting engaged and getting married within a month they met.

Difficult to say hun, a year isn't really that long but then your only getting engaged so it can't do any harm. I'm sure you do love each other but do you live together? Maybe you should think about it before you decide to get married, that way you can get to know each others habits, and decide from there how you really feel about it. Or maybe you could buy a pet together or something. As long as it's something your experiencing together.

Only you know deep down what the answer is. If you don't feel it in your heart then I would say wait a little longer. You will know when the time is right and this should be something you should discuss with your soon to be. You are talking about a lifelong committment and not something you should enter into lightly.
Good luck on your decision.

if you have to ask than no ... you should already know in your heart if you love him enough to marry him, it's never too soon to ask and you can always have a long engagement, but do not say yes unless you believe with all your heart you want to be with him forever.

You have to decide whether you are ready for marriage, that's what you have to think about not the engagement bit that's it easy its just one word, yes or no but you are going to commit yourself for the rest of your life to one man. If you are already asking questions about whether to get in engaged or not I don't think you are ready but its down to you in the long term but you have to seriously consider every possibility.

Get engaged, but don't get married. 100% of all divorces begin with a wedding!
