Make sure you read all the laws and rules of hunting. take hunting safety courses and go with a veteran hunters to show you how to do things.
practice your shot. so you don't take a bad shot. make sure it's a good shot and always makes sure what your shooting at.
always dress in orange and be very quite.
Try trapping to its is fun and you can makes lots of money

Bein' a hunter, I felt like I could answer this question pretty well...To start out, try rifle hunting for deer. If you like that, then get a shotgun and try turkey hunting..It's alot different, but they're both really fun...I wouldn't suggest bow hunting to you until you've got some experience and skill under your belt..because, it's harder. Have fun out there in the woods! Be safe, and legal.

Here in Canada, I took a firearms course.
You need it to get your gun licence. From there, I hooked up with a group of hunters that were going for the game I was after.(deer)
Being the new guy, I had to do most of the dogging, but it pays off, as you learn your safety, and the tricks.
I would suggest using a rifle, first, and go somewhere to "sight it in".
Practice makes perfect.

bunch a tree huggers up in here! i never had a mentor to get me out in the woods just gotta jump in and do it if your interested, expect failure, but keep at it and payoff will be nothing like you'll ever experience, i would go with a gun first unless your really wanting to bow hunt there is a lot to preparing yourself with everything you need to use a bow not to mention that you must practice a lot to make sure when you do take a shot with a bow you are accurate so you make a good clean kill good luck. by the way to all the tree huggers hunters are probably the biggest naturalists there is, because they understand to preserve the natural resources of this earth you have to manage them.

first off i applaud your desire to seek your roots ! yes i said it your roots. these pansies on here that deplore hunting and fishing seem to forget that 2000 years ago there were no walmart super centers to shop in for food. you either grew it or hunted it or starved!! i suggest finding yourself an older mentor to teach you the ropes. does your grandpa or anyone in your family hunt?? if not then read all you can about the subject. my son reads constantly about hunting and fishing and therefore reads way above his age. you little wimps need to cut off the rap music and stop acting like a ganster and get back to nature. you might develop a newfound appreciation for the struggles that your ancestors had to endure in order to survive before there were walmart super centers and 24 hour krogers!!!!!!!!

First grease your eyeballs real good
Do not use these new fangled weapons.
Get stones.
Make a lot of turkey noises, the deer like them too.
Oh! wear deer antlers, so you look natural.
