The odd kernel you see there is one you didn't chew; out of every 100 kernels you swallow, one or two miss getting ground up by your molars, and they pass all the way through. Once in a while you'll see a green pea for the same reason.

Corn and peas are digested - it's just that the fiber within these vegetables aren't digested, and pass through the body. The nutrients are absorbed.

Edit: There's no such thing as digestive hormones. The stomach contains pepsin, a digestive enzyme specializing in breakdown of proteins.

My friend's grandson had this problem too. It's when you don't chew corn correctly, it won't digest very well. It will take longer and fight your body during the digestion--making you feel sick.

The other people who answered are right. Corn has to be chewed properly. I don't think you should be discouraged to eat corn. Corn is very nutritious. Just try to chew more times before swallowing and perhaps eat slower can help too. This problem can happen again with other food that has to be chewed more than others.

Your stomach doesn't digest corn probably because of the hull, but, peas your stomach shouldn't have a hard time with. The only thing with peas is that they can sometimes give you gas.

The outside of a kernel of corn, like the outside of a pea, is fiber that we don't digest.

All the answers above are correct; but in spite of chewing properly, if you still have digestive problems, try getting some Hydrochloride Acid tablets, sold in Health Food stores as Beta Pepsin. They are taken right along with the meal you are eating.
.It does wonders and your system seems to absorb the nutrients and food you are feeding yourself...

i think what you are saying is corn comes out whole the way it goes in. yes that is true, peas are suppose to be broken down.see you have a form of acid in your stomach this helps start the process of digestion. the is like a processor different station for different jobs.what goes in in liquid form does not always come out like that.

Corn is more easily broken down, when it is chewed correctly! Same with peas.
