It goes back to the days when the machines to salt the crisps did not exist. Salt was added to the crisp bag in a twist of paper and you added it yourself.
When the process became mechanised the producers had to stae that the crisps already had salt added, hence ready salted.
There is still one brand of crisps that comes with the salt separate but the rest put it in.

Because in the good old days there used to be bags of crisps with a blue bag of salt that you added yourself hence the ones you buy now are "ready" salted

It's a British thing :) Here in the States crisps, or as we call them "chips", are presumed salted unless otherwise stated. We have choices of regular, salted; "Lightly Salted"; or "Salt Free". But really--if the bag says nothing about Salt, you can bet they're salty.

My guess about your crisp packet is, they want you to know it's already salted so you don't dump a handful in the bag :) Too much salt-YUCK!

Maybe when they say "Ready Salted" what they really mean is "Already Salted" and they are just saving money by using less letters?

Because they are not flavoured and the salt is already put on for you. So they are all-ready salted!

I believe ready , means the "normal" or "just right amount of salt"

in the Lays brand we have original which has 170mg salt, the lightly salted with 85mg . walkers original have 130mg.

so really its three different recipes
