Why do some people have so much trouble fathoming their own potential?

that is, some people have spiritual "gifts"... abilitys, ect. some do not.

why do so many that do not, beliver in religion or not... have *SO* much trouble fathoming that some people might be able to perceive something, and it be totally real, that they are unable to percieve?

I mean I admit it would be kinda scary.... but I would think the potential of understanding would make it worthwhile.

sometimes it feels like I'm a regular guy, walking into a village of natives somewhere totally separated from the rest of the world, that happens to have a village wide, genetic fluke that makes it so *NOBODY* in the village has been born with (functional) eyes for as long as anyone can remember.

I know it'd be hard for them to concive of color... of sight... but would it be SO absolutely impossible to conceive that they'd defy it existing, absolutely, simply because they have no concept of it?

I hope this is making sense, but its just boggling to me how people claiming to be intellectually superior through their profound reasoning and rational enlightenment that these things that have no proof, can't conceive of there existing a sense, and a layer of existance that they are simply unable to percieve.

a nation of people who were universally born blind, could develop fully as we have... but without sight and color. and to them, colors would be as utterly nonexistant to them, as say... ghosts are to people who have no spiritual awareness/sight. their technology wouldn't even be capable of detecting color!! why would it? why would a machine or technique developed by people who have no concept of vision, have any variable for color, whatsoever? it wouldn't.

i bekieve you. it even says in the Bible that King Saul used mediums to communicate with Lazarus when his throne was given by God to David. but it's detestable to God. you really should not communicate with the dead... you never know exactly what you are opening the door to. although i have an experience i would like to share with you. go to my profile and look under ''my answers''. click on the one titled "what is it?''. my experience is kind of similar to what you are asking about, though i don't know if you will believe it or not. it's not really about ghosts, and it's not about communicating with dead people. anyway, if you could read it and give me some feedback it would be great. thanks

to quote a movie " THE CLOUDED MIND SEES NOTHING. " people in every religious belief system may have clouded minds in not understanding they need to respect every ones right to free will in order that they also have the same free will. the minute anyone starts limiting anothers free will then everyone will suffer for if one is limited then another will place on a different limit until none have free will because of a snowball effect against free will.

Yes, but with your vision you could easily give them proof that vision does exist.
(for example: You tell a blind person that if they walk 10 steps ahead they will hit a tree, or you could play "Hide and seek" there are multiple ways of proving it)

With spirituality, no one is able to give proofs..

It depends on what kind of 'gifts' that you are talking about. If you are telling people that you can see dead people or that you have a special friend named ET or something then of course you are going to be met with skepticism.

I am sorry that you feel the way you do, but all people are not the same. Maybe the ones you have come across are self centred and do not care about anyone but themselves. Sorry buddy

a lot of people are materialistic, and some are spiritual, the spiritual person draws upon others like him, and the materialistic person draws from material things that cannot return that which they truly desire, feed back.
