I grew up in Michigan and there are many Amish communities here, so I've sort of had an understanding of them. You should really watch this documentary about the coming of age of Amish teens. It goes into detail of when Amish kids are allowed to wear "modern" clothing if they wish and explore the real world (drive cars, party etc.). It is very interesting and most of the kids who experience our way of life go back to the Amish church. The doc is called "Devils Playground" and is worth checking out.

Yes, i think amish communities are one of the purest forms of religion that still remain.I know many Amish people personally and, i think they have it right, as far as actions and following thru with what they do.I could list many things that are followed by the Amish people, but one sticks out the most, and that is,"they help one another, there are no Amish elders,or ill people in nursing homes, they take on the responsibility of loving and caring for their loved ones."My grandparents lived a lot like the modern Amish, some 100 years ago, so we are really not a lot dfferent in basic breliefs, but the Amish have lived the way they think God wants them to, and that is a living clean, natural and going along with what God hands to them,. be it good or bad, Thank you DC

Many believe that the Amish practice what the Bible teaches. But look at their beliefs. They feel that they should not be a part of the world. Look at Jesus and the apostles/disciples. Did they think that way? No. Jesus and his followers felt it was important to go out into the homes, cities, districts and preach the good news of the Kingdom. He went where the people were. He lived among them. He said his food was to do the will of his father. Also, the Amish community is saying that "it was God's will" that these girls were killed. Please....The Bible says that God cannot be tried for the evil in the world. Satan is the one that permeates this wickedness in people and wants people to blame God for these atrocities. The Amish need to look closer at the Bible and see that God is a God of love and that he purposes to rid the earth of this suffering. He certainly is not the cause of all this sadness.

What ought to she do? If she knew she might have stated as the police yet she knew not something. i think for the girl and her childrens. I additionally sense for the Amish who lost their youthful females! The Amish do not harbor hate by way of fact the lord is forgiving of everyones sins. The Amish are the main purist human beings interior the international. If shall we are residing the way they do, do you recognize the way lots money we could save? The debt in this u . s . a . could be much less then it is now. Why harbor hate for human beings? It purely reasons extra violence interior the international!!

They are an interesting people, and i think they are good for living the way they do. But the worst thing thats happened to them, apart from the tragic news this week. Is that they have become a tourist attraction ,long before this happenend to them. That has damaged the very idea that they are trying to acheive. It seems everyone and everything cannot escape the modern worlds curiousity, more,s the pity.

I live in Delaware, very close to the Amish community. I have a great deal of respect for these people. They are hard working, they don't cut corners, and they are always respectful. They practice the values taught by Christ, inclusive of turning the other cheek. If we could all live like that by giving up our computers and refrigerators the world would certainly be the better for it.

I live in Pennsylvania, and it's not rare to see the Amish out and about. They go to grocery stores (and totally clean the place out!) and Walmart and such (by way of a van) They're really not as meek and noble as some seem to think.

I had never heard of them before this tragedy, but I am impressed by their dignity. I wish a certain cult would behave with dignity instead of inciting fellow members of their cult to violence and hatred.
