This is what my vet told me and I was watching mythbusters on tv and that is even what they used for a dog they tried it on. Just becareful not to get it into the dogs mouth , or eyes.
• 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide formula (from a pharmacy)
• 1/4 cup baking soda
• 1 tsp. liquid soap
When the hydrodgen and baking soda is mixed it becomes a chemical that is why you need to use it as soon as you mix it. It breaks down the oils that the skunk has left on it .
It will not harm your pet at all just like any product dont get in eyes or mouth . Then rinse with tap water.

1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1tsp baking soda
dawn dish soap
wash your dog with the dawn dish soap first and be cautious to avoid the eyes. Let that sit on him for about 5-10mins then rinse really well. Next, pour the hydrogen peroxide into a bowl. Add the baking soda and some more dawn dish soap, only a few drops. Mix that well. Lather your dog in it for about 10mins. Rinse well. The odor will be reduced but not completely gone so you have to wash him everyday for about a week. The oil from the skunk soaks into the skin. If its on one area of his body wash that area after the one week period. It should be gone within 2 weeks.

Tomato juice or soup supposedly works but if the skunk was really close it will still smell. I ended up getting a skunk shampoo for dogs and bathing her twice but it didn't work. So I got her groomed but everytime she got wet (like in the rain) I could still smell the skunk smell.

ok don't laugh........women's douche is best. tomatoe soup helps but does not fully remove the scent. douche (vinegar) is best. i live in the mountains, and each year we have a family of skunks that make this there home. so pets being sprayed is a normal event. i did have a tenant tell me they tryed the downy and that worked pretty good too. good luck
