I did try it..yes, I lost weight fast. It is based on eating mostly meat..(which is very expensive!!)..and very little vegetables. I got sick of eating so much meat..my breath stunk!..and I felt horribly uncomfortable not being able to have a bowel movement. It was very hard to stick to..very expensive and extremely unhealthy in the long run. Plus knowing Atkins died of heart failure sort of puts proof to the pudding it's not a good diet to be on...
I'm not a fan of this diet...way to unhealthy..and ridiculous that you can not have too many veggies and fruit, but you can eat all the butter and fat you want ewwwwwwwwww

Everytime I try this diet I get a head ache after a few days from a lacki of carbs i would think. Not to mention i get a craving for carbs in my diet, like crackers, pasta or bread. I've found that if i just listen to my body it seems to work. I am trying a medication called Bontril which is a time released appetite suppresant which really works. I'ts only short term to get used to changing your dietery habits. the scipt is only for two months, one a day and trust me I have to remind myself that I actually need to eat to lose weight. I've lost 18 lbs in one month and that's not even trying. I weighed 209 and now I'm hovering around 188 to 190. Not bad for 48 yrs old at six feet. People ask me what I'm doing and think I'm at least 7 or eight years younger looking than I am. If you think your metabolism is slowing try the Bontril. You'll see results fast without the headaches I personally was getting with a no carb diet. JOHN C.

I think they took a good idea and went to far. While I believe that refined breads(white) and sugar is bad fo you. Cutting out certain fruits and veggies and limiting whole grains is NOT healthy. So, if your overweight you should watch the simple carbs, but Atkins is just to extreme

i just don't see how following the atkin's diet can be healthy for anyone. sure, i've known people to do it for a few weeks and get a jump start on their weight loss but the damage it can cause is horrible. your body can't live without carbs. it isn't normal.

I have heard that many health problems can come from following it...Too much high fat, and bad for the kidneys, and people who have used it, altho, initially they lost weight, as soon as they re-introduced carbs back into their diet, the weight came back.
Adding more low fat, high quality protein, into a diet of lots of fruits and veggies is alot healthier. We need some carbs, ( as opposed to Dr.Atkins diet) or we can suffer from low blood sugar. Fruits would help with that, as opposed to breads and pasta, etc...

It's hard on the kidneys, and a trigger for people suffering from gout...this just to name 2 of the numerous problems associated with very high protein diets. It is out of question for me.

I have been on it but for medical reasons & I felt great while on it. However, I don't know if I'd recommend it to just anyone, it's a pretty hard diet to be on & there are a lot of good foods you have to give up.
My opinion is that it is good but as I said that was becuase I was on it for medical reasons.

Yuckie. People who go on it smell. I know a couple of people who did it and lost a lot of weight, but then it all came back. Think how unrealistic it is, plus it's dangerous for your heart and very hard on your digestive system.
