Depends what version of linux you installed some use grub others use LILO.

You need to go into the BIOS and set the CD to be the first device to boot, put the hard drive second.
Do you have Windows installed already? If so, boot from the CD, enter the recovery console (press R when it asks you whether you want to install windows etc.) When you're at the console, type:

fixmbr

and that will remove GRUB from your system.

If you don't have Windows installed, GRUB will be overwritten as part of the installation.

If you need to remove LILO boot manager from MBR
If you didn't set up as dual boot then you need to reload Windows.

This url has instructions on how to do it.

If you do not want to save the Linux partitions then do this.

If possible use the Linux Cd's you already have and boot from the disk then delete the Linux partitions. Save the deletion but do not re-create any partitions.

Sometime you may be able to delete the partitions with an XP or Windows 2000 CD. Just boot up the CD and delete all the partitions.

An easy way if you do not have the original CD is to get a simple mepis live boot CD. Probably any live cd will do but I find the Mepis version very easy to use. Once you are in the GUI you can delete the partitions with the partitioning utility.

Another option is the link provided below. The Ultimate Boot CD web site is a great resource for obtaining free partitioning utilities and many other great utilities.

Yes you'll be able to. It is referred to as twin-booting. Load Ubuntu from the LiveCD after which opt for to put in it to your laptop. You will take delivery of choices to put in Ubuntu along Windows. One of the choices will recommend some thing like 'resize home windows partition'.

Can you make the Windows partition the bootable one?
Or boot into Windows and make the Linux partition inactive.

Any you need to use win98 cd for this give this command
