I am 44 years old. I also have mild stomach pain, but no pain during bowel movements. I have a an appointment with a specialist, but the appt is two weeks away. I am wondering if I should go to the emergency room? I have taken steps to increase fiber and water consumption. Big question is do I wait for my exam or go to the hospital. Thanks for your help

If the bleeding is more than spotting you should go get checked out, It may be as simple as a bleeding hemhoroid. But if the blood is coming from a paloyp then you may have a more serious condition. Better to go get seen than to wait. It will give you peace of mind if it is something minor. I hope you only have a minor problem.

It can be either -
a) Hemorrhoids (also known as haemorrhoids, emerods, or piles) are varicosities or swelling and inflammation of veins in the rectum and anus.

or

b) Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of death among cancers in the Western world. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

I wish it is on the first one. Without bothering for the appointment etc., you should go to the emergency room immediately to find what you are suffering from and the treatment thereof.

You should not delay it and immediate action to be taken . I am writing like this because of the symptoms mentioned by you. It is very difficult to come to any decision and only a doctor can tell you exactly.

Wish you all the best.

If the bleeding is only on the paper, then it can be a fissure. If the bleeding is in the bowl, it can be a number of things. You can have a hemmorhoid that bleeds when you strain from your bowel movement, or you can have an intestinal problem (I personally have Chron's Disease, so I know about this.)

I would say cut down on your dairy in-take, don't eat spicy foods, foods with nuts/berries (basically anything that will pass through you), don't eat wheat.

If the problem persists for a day or two more, I recommend you go to the emergency room. The more you bleed, the worse it will get.

Good luck!

I think you have an acute bleeding anywhere in your gastrointestinal tract, since the blood is bright red, but there's no way to tell now which part of your tract the bleeding is coming from, since you haven't had yourself worked up for it yet (which your specialist will do). The only risk you have right now is being anemic, since this is the 5th straight day that you've had the bleeding, but it will really depend on how much blood was really lost for the past days. If it is just minimal, then it will not affect your blood hemoglobin levels. I think it would be wise for you to go to the hospital. Two weeks is too far away.

this could be hemorrhoids (enlarged veins that develop in the anal canal). symptoms are usually rectal bleeding(bright red in color) along with, but not always present-itching and burning.

the other cause could be an ulcer which would explain the abdominal pain.

a G.I. bleed is a bleed that can occur anywhere it the digestive tract. it can be mild to life-threatening. your bleeding could be an indication of this.

fissures are tiny tears in the anal canal or around the opening of the anus. they occur when stool that is too hard passes through the anal opening. stool softeners will help relieve this.

i would make a trip to the er if:

-the bleeding it constant (not just when you have a bowel movement)
-you are losing large amounts of blood at each bowel movement (enough to turn the water in the tiolet bright red)
-you feel dizzy or faint (if there is noone to take you to the er-call 911)
-you begin to vomit blood or stool (this can occur with a bowel obstruction)

i would try to get seen sooner-if you've been bleeding for 5 days now your blood levels (hemoglobin and hematocrit) are already at risk for dropping. in two weeks they could be critically low-causing anemia and creating the need for a possible blood transfusion. if the dr can't get you in any sooner-go to the nearest urgent care or hospital

good luck to you and i hope you feel better soon

You said the blood is bright red, that means it is new blood. If it's not a lot then that could mean you just have hemroids. If you are bleeding internally, you would know it. The pain in your stomach wouldn't just be mild, you would be in so much pain that you couldn't hardly move.

If you are that concerned about then I'd suggest going to the ER.

Too much acid in your diet may have caused damage somewhere along the line. Too many tomatoes can do that for you. If it does not stop, it could be signs of a larger problem. See a doctor.
